IMPORTANT : DA 3D Folders for Modelers!!

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 15, 2012, 3:23 AM
After an overwhelming response to the "Split the Category" discussion, There's now a proposal for a new gallery layout, which ^Cymae would like your thoughts and feedback on.

This is a great opportunity to get involved in something which will affect everyone who submits to the 3D Category, so if you could take a few moments and share your thoughts, it would be appreciated.

The basic proposed structure (minus subfolders for each category)

3D Art
- Sculpting
- Hard Surface
- Organic
- Scenes and Composites

The problem I see with this layout is it doesn't address the issue of self made content built from scratch, is still not distinguishable from premade content based on folder layout. There would be no way to search a folder for only self made content they would still be mixed together, we would gain more categories but not address the issue most of us supported in the original discussion. Most character work in my group would be put into organic and muddled up with no way to tell the artists created everything in the scene.

This is not an argument over anything other then proper sorting for different fields of art.

My proposed suggestion is this, Instead of Sculpting I suggested Modeling and Sculpting.  Artwork that combines both would work well here as would models that are normal mapped combining the two. Artist who use premade models but also model elements them selves would still be fine submitting to the detailed sections setout in organic and scenes and composites. It would provide an easy to navigate folder system for people who want to distinguish between the two areas that still provides good categorization for elements that overlap or combine premade and self created.

Modeling & Sculpting
- Characters
- Beasts
- Robots
- Organic
- Hard Surface
- Other

Please comment in the journal linked if you would also like to see this type of folder system, this may be the only chance we get to change the 3D galleries in a long time. Your voice and opinion is very important Please share this with your own watchers if you agree. If you don't have the time or ability to comment with your own ideas simply stating "I agree with Nefquareiels suggestion to change sculpting to modeling & sculpting" would help create a searchable system based on your individual preference.

Thankyou for reading
of course any concerns ideas and discussion you want to have or if you have a better idea please comment in this or cymaes journal.
